Company’s Request
The request was to create a gateway for IoT/M2M applications with several configurable WAN options, LoRaWAN network stack, specifically designed for outdoor applications. The gateway needed to be used both in places which don’t require additional connectivity features and places with challenging terrains where no ethernet or WiFi exists.
Technology Set
Operating System | |
Linux Debian 8/Ubuntu 16.04 LTS kernel 3.4.x | This operating system, chosen for its stability and support for a wide range of hardware, provides the necessary foundation for robust gateway functionality. |
Processor | |
AllWinner SOC A20, ARM ® Cortexâ„¢-A7 Dual-Core | Delivers efficient processing power for handling multiple tasks simultaneously, making it ideal for the computational demands of IoT/M2M gateway operations. |
Security | |
IPSec | Provides authenticated and confidential packet transfers, making it ideal for securing network communications. |
L2TP | Used in conjunction with IPSec to facilitate secure connections and multi-protocol support, which is essential for maintaining secure communication channels in a potentially insecure external environment. |
Connectivity | |
Ethernet | Provides a reliable and high-speed connection for network communications within structured networking environments. |
Wi-Fi | Offers flexible and convenient wireless connectivity for areas where Ethernet is impractical. |
LoRa | Enables long-range communications with low power consumption, ideal for reaching distant or difficult-to-access locations without the need for high bandwidth. |
4G/LTE | Available as an option, it extends the gateway’s ability to maintain connectivity in areas lacking traditional network infrastructure, providing broadband speeds over cellular networks. |
Sirin Software team developed both the hardware and software for a PoE powered gateway with built-in WiFi+BT4.0 module, 8 LoRa® channels, LoRaWAN™ 1.0 protocol support. The gateway is synchronized with world time; information about physical positioning; mini-PCIe, SATA, MicroSD, UART expansions.
Value Delivered

Cost-efficiency
The gateway runs on embedded ARM-based single-board computers, making the devices low-cost and easy to use.
Enhanced connectivity
The gateway has a connection of up to 62,500 nodes. The device can receive 1.5 million packets per day.

Long-range coverage
The gateway’s coverage ranges from 60 km in open areas and up to 5km in dense urban areas.

Added extra data safety
One of two protocols can be used – IPSec or L2TP.
Easy setting
Easy setting with web administration environment.
